Because Dizzy has a top tip for us all...
"Best thing to do with spaghetti and noodles is to present it in sort of
balls. Spin it around a fork as you would if you were eating it, then
plop the spun ball onto your baby's tray and take the fork out. Dizzybaby
looooves noodles, she picks up the spun ball, shoves it in her mouth
and sucks in the straggly ends."
Good thought, Dizzy, I must admit we were round at a friend's house for dinner last month and poor babybear got a bit frustrated with the spaghetti so she ended up with a meal of bread bolognese...

I've found spaghetti to be ok, Boomer plays with strings of it and has quite an impressive sook. however if I am to be truely honest its more of a timewaster than a true meal.

Excellent advice - we are trying spaghetti tomorrow
I need some help!!!! My son is 7 months old next week, we have been trying blw for 3/4 weeks as he point blank refused to be weaned with mush on a spoon - but he still won't eat anything he puts food into his mouth and gums it - as he does his toys but when anything comes off he just looks revolted and gags and spits it out the only thing he will carry on chewing past the first realisation it is food is a rusk as he can quickly and easily expell it from his mouth! Will he ever eat? has anyone had a similar experience then had a breakthrough? My health visitor is lovely and supports blw but I dreading going to see her on Thurs and explaining that he is still not eating he is teething very badly and is off his milk a little too! argfghhhhhhhhh!!!! dear Anonymous (I presume you do have another name! but this will have to do!) Althoug it may feel like you have been doing blwing for ages there is still plenty of time for your LO to develop his eating. It is very common at the start to feel like they are eating nothing and all you are really doing is creating an elaborate method of redistributing piles of food onto the floor. I think the best advice is just to hang in there, keep offering him bits of food , like fruit, soft veg, toast (if not worried about wheat), rice cakes etc. I personally found that in the first few months Boomer was really not interested in trying food unless others were eating at the same time.
The whole weaning process is a gradual thing so I find it hard to remember any breakthrough point but it was definatly about 91/2 mths before Boomer was 'wanting' food i.e. seeming hungry and eating with real intent. If your HV supports and understands blw then she too should understand that although this may feel very frustrating at the moment it will pay dividends in the end. It is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel especially when others may be following a different path for weaning and are already onto three meals a day and a cigar before bed. Hi Anon,
if you have a look at the BLW FAQ, which was put together by mums who've done it for a while, i think most of them said that their babies only started getting the hang of eating from 8 months onwards, and some took as long as a year. if you can, keep muttering 'until they're one it's just for fun' under your breath... not easy but at least BLW gives you a free pass on the eating thing for a good few months yet. good luck with everything. also, you don't actually have to go and see your HV. it's easy to fall into a routine of going for weigh ins, but if you don't get anything from it then don't go see them!

very true, dizzy, i've not seen my HV since she popped in for a weaning chat (at three months!).
