As it happens, Morv's little girl eats citrus fruits by the bucketload but because I have a friend with a serious citrus allergy I was pretty cautious about giving them to Babybear. Please note that it's a friend who has the allergy, not a member of my family, so I was being precious to say the least.
Anyway I know all that stuff about the weaning window of opportunity is a load of prize-winning bolleaux but by the time I got around to 'risking' a bit of orange Babybear was having none of it. I had to listen to Morv's tales of Boomer's incredible tangerine consumption with considerable envy.
So I mentioned this state of affairs to my mother, who occasionally takes Babybear for the day (to give me time to clean our midden of a home...if you could see it you'd know how occasional the babysitting). And blow me, did the old dear not tell me that Babybear has been eating clementines at Grandma's for months now..?
I've seen it with my own eyes now, we were round at my mum's for dinner tonight. There she was, stuffing her face and shouting for more. Hhhmmmmm. Am off to buy some tomorrow. What's the betting she won't take them from me?

If it makes you feel any better, I was discussing with my hubby about whether we should give her some sugar treats now and then, like a biscuit..and he pipes up ' yeah, she loves bourbons, they are her favourite!'
apparently she thinks custard creams are gross though...... And am I a Bad Mummy for telling Munch that mandarins, satsumas, clementines and oranges are all Oranges?...only it's so much easier! Re: Clementines

Oh, we are big fans of clementines. Much sweeter than oranges I think? Weeble like to suck them in a mediative manner, then spit out the little exoskeletons. Normally he throws them onto remote parts of the kitchen floor for Daddy to tread on later.
I think he had a few too many at Christmas - bit of a sore bum. Weeble, that is, not his dad. Re: Re: Clementines

hi there bit of newbie here im afraid just wanted to ask when you are able to introduce said clementines? started blw 2 weeks ago and the wee man is 5 months old (little early i know but was told by friend that this was the time to start blw) so yes umm the question was when can i give the clementines? Im assuming he is still to young yet?
Re: Re: Re: Clementines
well, it depends if you are worried about allergies or not. have a look at the allergy schedules if you are, and if not then i'd probably wait til the 6 months stage. mind you i waited for ages to try citrus with babybear because i know someone with a citrus allergy and it's not pretty.
why did your friend say 5 months was the time to start? it's not wrong, per se, because it's BLW, but it's odd advice as technically it conflicts with the WHO guidelines. Re: Re: Re: Re: Clementines

I had a bit of a worry about clementines cos I think I have a bit of a citrus sensitivity, but IzzyMouse took matters into her own hands and grabbed a bit when she was just over 6 months, and was fine. She now does big oranges too, and treats them much like Weeble, but also tears chunks off now, like a little shark.
