Re: Welcome to Baby Led Weaning - two friends, two babies, no spoons...

This is a great blog, thank you H, like the Scottishisms and the general air of non-preachiness.
I am a somewhat lazy mum of a 4 year-old and an almost 6 month old (no idea how many weeks, think you stop counting with the second one) and I LOVE the sound of BLW so am looking forward to trying it out. Actually, not just laziness on my part but also my experience with daughter no.1, a real gorgeous midget of a child, who really never EVER liked purees and didn't really get interested in eating until she could hold finger foods and spoons herself. I can't tell you how many delicious lentil and whatnot stews I pureed up and then chucked in the bin when she refused to let the spoon in her mouth. This time round I am so relieved to have BLW as an excuse not to puree... It just makes perfect commonsense to me. Mind you, haven't started yet, Hah!
By the way, H, have read your bottle/ breast feeding comments somewhere else and I wanted to tell you something to stop yourself feeling guilty. I've spent a lot of time doing research in rural Southeast Asia, and I once knew a first-time mother who developed mastitis and all kinds of horrible complications after the birth of her first baby. She lived in a community where all the women had about 10 children and people were popping out their boobs and feeding kids continually (so, basically, tons of support from women who knew what they were doing rather than craggy old HVs). But because of her complications she just couldn't breastfeed. Her family tried to get formula and bottles but these were v expensive, and though other women could help out, the baby eventually died. So sometimes, despite support, women are just not able to breastfeed and thank god that we have bottles and formula and sterilising equipment and our babies don't die.
So don't feel guilty, you sound like a fab mum!
I have a question - we don't eat meat but we do eat fish - have you tried any BLW fishy stuff yet? Or does it just fall apart?
