I am a dentist, and take an annual CPR course to keep up to date with the ever changing recommendations for CPR. I have never had any worries about letting my son feed himself, and we have never had a choking incident. Plenty of gagging, but it is important to recognise the difference between gagging and choking. My daughter was puree weaned, and probably gagged more than my son does. Of course I am concerned about the possibility of my son choking,but the fact is that it is highly unlikely. Babies who are BLW'd learn how to chew before they learn how to swallow, thus decreasing the risk of choking.
