Not sure about the stopping bfeeding but I can recommend the book No Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley to try and change your little ones sleep associations, then when you had seperated the breastfeeding from the sleep issue you could then try to stop the feeding if you still want to. We've just started working on some of the ideas from the book and they are having good effects! It takes time to work but is much gentler approach than the cry it out thing. There is a baby version of the book and one for toddlers so prob worth checking if you library has a copy!
