Re: How do we really feel about spoons?
by Anonymous
Have been pondering this over the last few days - and came to the conclusion that for ME, it's the pureeing that I really object to about the normal way of weaning - with BLW I like the fact that M can eat the same food that we do (or will be able to, once we get through the slow process of introducing to rule out allergies). So I tried M (7 months old) on porridge for breakfast (was thinking about making porridge pancakes, but am just not that organised - as it was I sat her down while I could express enough milk to make porridge!). We used 2 spoons - but NOT one for me, one for her - both for her. I let her play (ie stuff in her mouth) with one spoon while I mixed the porridge with the other, and then loaded up the spoon with a bit of porridge & held it in front of her (upright), exactly the way I would with any other food. And exactly the way she does with any other food, she grabbed it out of my hand & jammed it into her mouth (while I was loading up the next spoonful). In my opinion, that sticks to all my BLW principles. Not sure whether I'm technical enough - but it's possible that if you click on my username you'll see a photo of M spoon feeding herself
