Re: If they hate something, how long a gap do you leave before trying it again?
by Lin
I find that, conforming to the Unwrittten Kids Code: Children will behave beautifully in someone else's home, Small will tuck into stuff that she scorns when I present it to her in the comfort of her own high chair. I don't know whether she bows to peer pressure (she seems to eat more when in company of other babies) or is just inherently polite. If she really hates something I do back off it for a few days but will generally give it a go a week or two later. On the whole though, I go with Aitch's approach - if I am having it, then Small gets offered it. I don't want to get suckered into the whole "cooking two different meals" thing - after all that's one of the main reasons I went for the whole BLW approach in the first place. A fun (if not slightly sadistic) approach is to present a food that she doesn't like along side one she REALLY doesn't like and watch her try to decide between two evils. This is how she decided to eat carrots - which she downed with every sign of enjoyment when faced off against celery - but hasn't touched since. Who knows.....
