Aitch that sounds like an allergic reaction to me. Both my dds are allergic and the first sign is always 'nettle rash', however tomatoes are an irritant and an allergy specialist told us to put vaseline on dd2s face when she has such foods [tomato, strawberry, kiwi] so you can tell if allergic or just irritating. Maybe worth a go...
